Define the use before choosing a solution
Describe who will use the building, how people and materials move, and the essential purpose of each space. Record operational, maintenance, future expansion and budget priorities. This gives the design team a basis for evaluating proposals beyond the appearance of a facade.
Gather site information and constraints
Start with the plot location, available survey, boundaries, access, utility information and relevant reports. Distinguish confirmed information from items requiring investigation and assign responsibility for each document. The appointed professionals assess applicable requirements and approvals for the project location and type.
Coordinate where disciplines meet
Review floor levels, openings, plant space, equipment access and distribution routes across disciplines. Maintain a decision register with an owner, due date and affected drawing revision. Closing these interfaces before procurement reduces ambiguity in pricing and site coordination.
Define what a completed package contains
Agree the deliverable list, level of detail, file formats, review rounds and approval responsibilities. When making an enquiry, share available drawings and explain whether you need a concept, design development or coordination of an existing package.
